Tesla Model 3

World’s largest Electric car manufacturer Tesla Motors has confirmed its launch in India by 2020. The CEO Elon Musk responded to the questions from IIT, Madras team at ‘Space X Hyperloop Pod’, USA and has informed the same.

Tesla has been trying to launch the brand in the Indian automobile sector but was not able to mark an entry till now. The CEO Elon Musk had earlier tweeted that they will launch the brand by 2019 or 2020 on last April 2019. He had previously raised concerns over the government’s laws and unflexible conditions that make it difficult for them to invest in India, as they are very much interested in the Indian Automobile market.

Tesla is expected to launch its branch by Model 3 model, which is around $35,000 and costs within Rs 25 lakhs in the Indian market. In 2015, PM Narendra Modi had visited the Tesla Electric plant at headquarters in Palo Alto and met the CEO.

The Model 3 will have a mileage of 240 miles on a single charge with a top speed of 140mph. It has got one of the best acceleration among the segment i.e 0-60mph in 5.3 seconds. The model will be available in five different colours. In the US market, the Autopilot version is available with an additional $6000 option. With the autopilot mode enabled, the car can steer, accelerate and brake automatically for the obstacles, pedestrians, lane change and for other cars.

The car also has the capability to auto-park in parallel and perpendicular spaces. Coming to the interior, the car has got major features like

  • 12- way power-adjustable heated front seats
  • Premium seat material and trim
  • Tinted glass roof with UV and IR protection

  • Central console storage and 4 USB ports with 2 dockings for the smartphone.

The car has got a highly aerodynamic shape and design with futuristic controls and features. The tyre size is 19″ with Sports Wheels which costs around $1,500.

Unlike other electric car manufactures, Tesla doesn’t use individual large batteries but use cylindrical thin lithium-ion cells like those used in consumer electronics which makes it more efficient and long-lasting. Panasonic is the main supplier of these cells for Model 3.

Model 3 was the most sold car in ‘Plug-in electric car’ segment during 2017, in the USA with total units of 139, 782. Launching as the third generation car, it is available in three variants; Standard Range Plus RWD, Dual Motor AWD Long Range and Performance models in the US market. Let us hope for the global brand to hit the Indian road soon.
